While I agreed with everything you said before this, you're way off base here. It is not okay that Egyptians are played by white European actors, and "it's the movies" is not an acceptable excuse. You're right that movies can and do take creative liberties with rewriting history, but there's an enormous difference between adding unrealistic sex scenes, and racial whitewashing.

That being said, I don't think lots of SJWs understand what Egyptian ethnicity is, either. It's not the same as being "black". And Cleopatra was part only part Egyptian/African at best, she was at least mostly Greek.

I'm glad you said this. The whole thing about "media doesn't matter" and "you're dumb if you can't tell the difference between fiction and reality" is really ignorant of how our environment effects us. The media you're exposed to has an impact on how you see the world, and the only reason it's easy for people to say, "it doesn't effect me, because I'm smart enough to tell the difference" is because you usually can't tell it's happening. It's only when you're forced to take a look at your implicit biases that you start to realize, "...oh shit. It HAS been impacting my worldview."

And also, the people who make media have biases and prejudices, and it's impossible for them to keep all of that completely out of what they make. Their bias and prejudice is gonna come through in their writing, casting decisions, etc. It's not helpful to dismiss that and say "but it's just fiction."

Yeah, and I really resent that this has been tied into the "SJW" image. To me, the SJW is the "slacktivist" who gets mad because a Disney adaptation of a Scandinavian fairytale doesn't include any non-white lead characters. Basically, throwing a tumblr fit about either inaccurate or minor things, and being a jerk and assuming the worst in people. But please can we separate it from legitimate issues? Media biases, racial whitewashing and stereotypes, etc are real problems, and don't throw them away just because they obviously don't affect you and "everyone knows the difference, duh, it's fiction."
