It can be both OP. Coulson can have a crush and see him as an idealized father figure. Dad-crush.

Pshhh. Fake incest isn't even something warned for (Thor/Loki), so it isn't that weird.

How is Thor/Loki fake incest? Adoption or not, they're still brothers, so it's still incest. Unless you're talking about AUs in which they aren't related at all, by blood or adoption?

Most people don't consider Thor/Loki incest because they are not related by blood. They don't tag for it at least.

Well, that's just wrong.

Uggggh, for real? I knew that some people didn't, but I just wrote them off as random idiots.

that's...stupid.

and kind of offensive? I'm not adopted but if I were I don't think I'd like the insinuation that adopted siblings aren't ~~real~~ siblings.

Hmm, I've never looked at their relationship like that, but I could kind of see it.

(I'm a massive Steve/Bucky fan but love the idea of Coulson head over heels for Steve. It just delights me. I was disappointed when AoS didn't have Coulson say something 'hero worship-y' after the Winter Soldier crossover when Steve was still missing.)

OP:

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also kind of bummed that AoS hasn't ever really mentioned his Captain America fanboying at all. My headcanon is that he doesn't bring it up around The Bus people because he knows they'd (particularly Skye) would buy him a Captain America bedspread and cover it with other Captain America merchandise as a prank and he'd never hear the end of it.

Would he actually mind that so much, though? He would hoard that shit away, I just know it. (Even if he complained in public. He probably has a shrine somewhere. He could just add it to his shrine.)

It's a missed opportunity, I tell you.

I kind of have trouble seeing Steve in the role of, say, a daddy kink simply because his own father died in WWI so Steve never had a chance to know him.

But I wouldn't worry so much, OP. Your feelings aren't really weird.

OP:

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can't really see it as daddy kink on either side either (I'm also really squicked out by most daddy kink though)

The whole situation's kind of weird considering Coulson also takes up a SUPER paternal role in AoS.

The whole idea of Steve attempting daddy kink and failing because he never really had a father suddenly reminded me of an old How I Met Your Mother episode where Barney having kinky sex with a woman when she asks "Who's your daddy?" and he responds with "I DON'T KNOW!" and has to stop because he gets upset (It's humorous in context and I still think it's funny despite my own background with an estranged father)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
In the comics, Steve's dad was a chronic alcoholic who died of flu when Steve was still quite small. I personally think that his "mustard gas" line in the recruiting center in the movie was another lie he was telling in an attempt to bluff his way into the army.

The captions on this are the most adorable adorbs. Thank you for making me giggle. I needed that.

OP:

I'm really glad I had a chance to brighten your day :)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I like your headcanon. It has taken up lodging in my own head & is a lovely roommate.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I get that. It's not exactly the same, but similar when you switch between different pairings for the same character. One fic might ship A/B, but the next is A/C and A now sees B 'like a brother' or something like that. It's why I try to not to mix ships when I'm reading more than one fic after the other.

It could be an interesting story though, in this case. For all that Coulson admires Cap and may have built his own morality and identity around what he thought Rogers was, he doesn't really know the man. I'd love to see them interact more, would love some fic that explores that problem. But while there is some fic for these two, I've yet to find anything that's in character and not complete fluff.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I understand your dilemma, but exploring it well would likely require a somewhat long and relatively slow moving fic so I understand why a lot of fics along those lines don't exist yet.

I'm working on some fic now to possibly alleviate that problem, but yeah, wish me luck

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck! Looking forward to reading it :)

Yes, all of that would require some time and quite a few pages of fic. I suppose it's just odd, since it is a ship a lot of people have come up with, at least for Coulson, and to me it seems like working through his admiration of Cap so he can get to know Steve would be a common trope. It's probably just a coincidence; certain ships/fandoms seem to have very few long fics while others have nothing but.

It could be both.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
One does not preclude the other and it doesn't really have to have an incest undertone or daddy kink. I don't think it's unusual to be attracted to someone because of qualities that would make them a good parent.

Image: screen cap of Steve Rogers and Phil Coulson from the Avengers.

Text: Ever since I saw the Avengers I assumed Coulson’s feelings for Steve fell into “man-crush” territory.

[tiny text] Phil saying “hi dad” and Steve saying “nope”

[regular text] But then I started watching AOS and I thought of the interpretation that maybe the reason he likes Captain America so much is because his own father died when he was young and as he grew up he viewed him as the ideal role model and to help fill the void of his lack of parental figure.

(which I actually identify with to some degree)

[tiny text on Steve’s forearm] fatherly exposed forearms

[regular text] And I think it’s an interesting headcanon.

S!B: this makes things a bit awkward now considering I (STILL) SHIP THEM LIKE BURNING

[tiny text on Coulson] plz love me dad

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
certainly wouldn't be the first gay relationship with daddy issues
