Saaame. I've always been a shipper, but I still love how they went from disliking and not relating to each other to having feelings for each other. It was well done.
It also bothers me how Korra and Mako's relationship in the first season was rushed and hardly developed, but you never hear any of the Korrasami naysayers going on about that.

I KNOW RIGHT? It makes me annoyed every time I see "but its an ASSPULL".

Mako and Korra- She meets him in ep2 and decides they're "meant to be" in ep 5 or 6. Then get together at the end of the season.

Korra and Asami- TWO WHOLE SEASONS leading up to...holding hands.

they were both asspulls. considering how terrible bryke is at writing romance, i don't believe them and their "subtle hints" for a second. even if it was intentional, it was a half-assed job either way. but tbh i'm kind of glad they waited until the last five seconds to make it canon, because if the show somehow managed to continue with korra and asami together, they'd undoubtedly fuck it up and make it as dreadful as every other relationship. i would never in a million years trust bryke to write a good romance between women.

but i guess half-assed buildup is better than ultimate fucking up the relationship that would've inevitably happened. blech.

sachiko-san, is that you?

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Eh maybe, but they tend to be pretty willing to go un-anon to complain about Korra

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
True. It just really sounds like her, with the "asspull" and "Bryke are such awfully horrid writers and can't write romance".

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Those aren't sentiments exclusive to sachiko-san, though. I wouldn't express it quite like anon did, but I feel the same way about Bryke's ability to write romance.

give it a rest

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, this. At least Korra and Asami actually had friendship-chemistry, though, before fizzling out into the flat, stilted, Bryke-style, "Look, I'm writing romance!" type romance. Some Avatar couples don't even get that, so are just completely devoid of anything that makes romance interesting or believable. I definitely rooted for Korra and Asami before their relationship became ham-fisted romance.

Also, look at Bolin and Opal. Nobody EVER mentions that they pretty much met, had an instant attraction, and were considered a couple in the space of two episodes. Or Jinora/Kai - same deal. They met, they're attracted, they're sort of assumed to be an official couple.

Yet Korrasami's slow and steady build-up of friendship, then attraction, then the decision to go on vacation to the spirit world together is apparently an asspull. You'd have to be deliberately ignoring SO MUCH of their scenes together (their shared jokes, their synchronisation, their little glances/blushes/gestures) to believe that.

na

Bolin and Opal's relationship in particular nearly gave me whiplash. My goodness

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
da. Eh, depends on your part of the fandom, I think. Bopal got a lot of criticism (especially in Book 3) for how quickly it happened and how underdeveloped Opal herself was, as if she was just there to be the Galatea to Bolin's Pygmalion.

I think Jinkai got a pass because of how cute and drama-free it was.

+1

Agreed completely.

That's because a lot of it was fueled by Zutarian's going "THIS TIME WE GET OUR FIREWATER SHIP"! And once again, Mike and Bryan STOMPED ON THEIR LITTLE HEARTS.

Best trolls are best trolls.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I use the dashed zutarian hopes when I need to sheer myself up.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. That is one master troll. They really have it out for them for some reason.

The reason is because they deserve it. if you were in the fandom back in the day you'd understand.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
da

They really, really do

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
*shudders* I still cringe when I hear the word Zutara.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
That is actually true.

Part of me is really curious to know how bad it was, I only ever skulked around the fringes of the fandom so I never saw just how uh... Intense everything was back then.

Posting shit like this like it's gospel
http://s7.photobucket.com/user/Drow_Mystic/media/zutara.jpg.html

And screaming at everybody who so much as doubted. Then when shit went down screaming at the creators and all of us for ruining it. Attempts to create a "true" ending bullshit with delusional levels of thinking they could pull some sort of movie off with canon voice actor involvement.

I really don't understand this. I shipped Katara and Zuko (NOT in the fandom though, my goodness) and I really did not ship Korra and Mako. The former had chemistry; the latter felt forced, to me. Is it just me? I don't get the whole fire/water thing, I ship people, not their special powers

(Anonymous) 2015-01-14 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not just you. Shipped Zutara because the two had interesting character interactions. Never shipped Makorra; shipped Korrasami kind of jokingly since Book 1 since I wanted them to actually have interactions. Was overjoyed when said interactions started in Book 3 and were awesome.

Don't worry. I was going to bust in late to the party to comment the same thing, but you said it for me.

I mean, when it was just the promos, I thought "woohoo! hello new zutara pairing", and then after the first episode I found myself liking Bolin/Korra better, and then after the fourth or fifth I found myself liking Tahno/Korra better, and then soon enough I found myself liking Amon/Korra better...

By the end of it, Korra became my fandom bicycle with pretty much everyone OTHER than Mako.
