I'm not blonde, but when I was about eight a couple of kids from Africa who were visiting Europe for the first time came over to my house. The five year old one couldn't stop touching my long, straight hair. At first I was weirded out, then just sat and let her stroke it. She was so amazed at how it felt.

The second time the kids came round, I waited for her to try to touch my hair again but she didn't. I was a bit disappointed. For a while, I'd felt like a precious being from another world.
