that kid on the right is a veteran? he looks about 12 years old i am astonished

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
He's fifteen, and he was in Les Miserables on the stage before he played Gavroche for the movie.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Jack is a Broadway veteran? Even so, they aren't the only two. Christine Baranski and Anna Kendrick at the very least have Broadway backgrounds (Anna Kendrick was nominated for a Tony when she was 12!).

That said, I could see that being a place for a song (especially since it's such a short scene in the stage show), but I would have much preferred that they put one of the cut songs back in *cough*No More*cough*Agony Reprise*cough*

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think you'll find that Anna Kendrick is a movie star and so therefore cannot have Broadway cred

(actually, this is a completely wild and unsupportable and irresponsible accusation, I don't follow Broadway stuff at all so I have no idea if this is actually a thing that Broadway people are snooty about, sorry everyone)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Because actors can't move from one to another? Really?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not really, no. I mean some Broadway people might be snooty about it, but most don't care.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Jack's a West-End veteran, my bad. Also on Anna Kendrick, I didn't realize her Tony nom was for a musical.

SA

Oh, and I'm with you on them cutting No More. That was blasphemous. The agony reprise was missed but I'm actually glad that at least Rapunzel's prince wasn't a complete asshole.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed 100% - I would have totally preferred the cut songs back in - rather than anything new. I was so disappointed at the lack of Agony Reprise.

Ooh, what were the songs? (Are they're on the super deluxe edition spotify has? I got the standard one and pretty much run through the show on my commute. )

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if they can be found in recorded form, but I have definitely read that a song was written for the witch called "Rainbows", and another for the Baker and the Baker's Wife.

I think I read somewhere that they'll be put on the DVD at least? I might be wrong though.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who thought this movie sucked?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I hated it. My only response to this secret was "They're Broadway veterans?! Shouldn't they be able to sing then?!"

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I'm seeing all these people praising it all over tumblr, and I can only ask: Why???

It didn't seem to have a coherent plot. It was really weird in terms of tone and message. It was like it couldn't decide what it was saying. And it didn't even entertain me. I just couldn't give a single shit about the characters.

That little girl's voice was really annoying in the movie; but I just generally dislike the 'Annie' style of singing.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I don't get why people are being very judgey if you hate it.

Personally I think it's more of Disney's failure because it interested me enough to want to see it live, but their adaption was crappy. It just feels like one those plays they tried to bring to movie and it was better off left in the live theaters. I guess someone could have done it justice, but the editing Disney did and casting were what killed it for me.

LOL I personally really liked it, but I came out of it knowing it wasn't going to please everyone. One of my coworkers told me her sister hated it.

I really liked it, but I had no knowledge of the musical. I do think Rapunzel's story was cut kind of abruptly.

If you ever get the chance I highly recommend checking out the OBC recording. It's on Netflix (not streaming).

Image: promo picture from Into the Wood, feeling Little Red and Jack.

Text: It annoys me that even though Sondheim wrotge two extra songs for the movie that were cut, neither of them were a duet for these two. I mean there’s a perfect spot for the song – Red supposedly daring Jack is a plot point later.

Come on man, if you were going to write a new song as Oscar Bait, why not write it for the two broadway veterans in the cast?

(I just wanted these two interacting more in the movie. They were adorable.

The Baker won a Tony, didn't he? Not like these are the only two Broadway veterans.

I'm more upset over songs that were cut to even think about wanting more new material... 'No More' was one of my favorites.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He did, though not for a musical.
