If I had only ready Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, I might've been with you. BUT, I came to dislike Robinton. Even before the Masterharper book, he became a "Mary Sue" to me, and I found him insufferable.

As for Menolly, I liked her in her first two books but not in any of the others. She seemed to have been infected with the stuff I didn't like in Robinton. She clearly always knew more than everyone else, always with that twinkle in her eye. And she poked at other people but didn't explain anything. It was that smug superiority that bugged me. I liked when she was insecure but still reaching for her goals and trying to fit in.

'smug superiority' is the reason i end up disliking a *lot* of characters. I hate that so very much.

yes! I liked her in dragon song and dragon singer... I kinda despised the way she treated Piemur in Dragondrums though.
