(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)(But I also jokingly refer to my attraction to black women as a "colored girl fetish," so apparently I am without taste.)
But no, seriously, it's so cute and baggish.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:07 am (UTC)(link)How come attraction to anyone that isn't white immediately gets labelled as a fetish?
ayrt
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:12 am (UTC)(link)Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:17 am (UTC)(link)I'm gonna go ahead and think that they probably took more umbridge with "colored girl" rather than just "girl." Calling black people "colored" was a slur for a long time (and in some parts of the US it still is, particularly in the South) and it's considered pretty insulting. It's one of the reasons that some people have a knee jerk reaction to the phrase "person of color" (including my grandmother when she first heard it. she was very surprised when I told her that it was becoming mainstream)
Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:23 am (UTC)(link)I don't mean to be malicious. I used the term in another thread on this page because it popped into my head. I blame Lou Reed.

I do get that it's a quick way to offend someone, but I roll my eyes at people who act like it's a dirty word.
Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:30 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, I guess when people get words like "colored" and "nigger" thrown at them to make them feel lower than dirt, they tend to think it's, well, a dirty word. You sound like a class act
Re: ayrt
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:33 am (UTC)(link)the usage of the word "colored" in South Africa historically has a very different context than it does in America. there's a good reason for why people (especially black people who have had it used against them) think it's a "dirty" word
ugh
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:38 am (UTC)(link)There's a reason I'm on anon today.
"Colored" is a stupid term, as is "white." If you were actually white,
you'd look dead. We are all colored, just some of us darker than others.
I'd rather treat the term as a joke than give it power by fearing it.
Re: ugh
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:44 am (UTC)(link)that is dumb as fuck
Re: ugh
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 06:20 am (UTC)(link)Re: ugh
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 05:47 am (UTC)(link)well, good luck not getting your ass kicked when you tell people you have a "colored girls fetish" I guess
Re: ugh
(Anonymous) 2015-01-15 10:48 am (UTC)(link)(because certain ethnic minorities that are many here can have dark or faint skin and they each get their own racism directed at them)
But way better than POC, which is an annoying american term entirely too close to colored and dismissive of other minorities...
