Personally, I never take her in my party because I don't like her attitude and I usually only bring one mage. I've heard so many people say she's very useful in fights though, and I'm just wondering, is that just when you automatically assign her skill points and make sure she has a good weapon, or are some characters just "better" than others? Because I have manually assigned her points, and I have no idea if I made her the strongest she could be. What is it that makes her more useful against dragons than Solas or Dorian? Just so I know on my next playthrough :)

Her specialization. The Knight-Enchanter tree is incredibly useful, since a character with a few points in it is incredibly durable and its focus skill fully heals the entire party, including downed characters, and grants regeneration (between 2% and 25% per second, depending on whether you've invested in unlocking the higher level focus tiers) for 10 seconds.

As the above anon said, it's really just her specialization. KE is incredibly useful, full stop. I played as one my first time through, so I didn't really hang with other mages at all, and by roughly level 16 I was just stupidly overpowered. Doing another playthrough now on a harder difficulty setting, and Viv is shaping up to be as ridiculous as my own mage was.
