I think it's generally easier just to download it through Origin or something. If your Internet can handle that, I don't know, it is a big game but then again it is, in technology years, kinda older so it might not be as rough to download.

I'd say the battling in Dragon Age Origins is kind of tough for a newbie but I believe you can set the difficulty to easy. Well, I shouldn't say it's tough, but it might take a little getting used to, but then again the game does start you out easier before you get into the tougher battles. And it is more or less straightforward. You can pause every two seconds if you want to think about what to do, or you can get through a number of battles just by using normal attacks. I recommend going Mage, I think that's the easiest for a new player because you can usually stay in the back while the action is happening, your attacks are ranged and you have access to healing spells.

I think the biggest thing to keep in mind about the battles is that while areas aren't explicitly level gated, there are sections of the game that are definitely meant to be explored at higher levels and the enemies are scaled appropriately. If you run into an early, non-boss encounter in an area that you can't defeat without multiple reloads (or running the fuck away, going back and killing one guy, and repeating until everything's dead), you've probably wandered into one of those areas and will save yourself a lot of frustration if you go away, do some other quests, and come back later.
