That wasn't Mamoru's fault... but in the anime, Seiya didn't know that, so you can't fault Seiya for thinking that Mamoru was just a jerk who went to America and dumped his girlfriend without even bothering to tell her. Characters can only operate on information available to them and I hate how fandom often acts like they should be able to read minds or know all the stuff the audience is privy to. Of course they don't.

Yes, but she didn't know that. She assumed he either didn't care or was too busy for her. In the manga, she had blocked out his death.
