Well,as everyone says, you're SUPPOSED to write it for yourself. Which, technically is true. But then if you have zero response you really do start to doubt yourself. But the reverse is also true. I know I could write absolute drivel for Stuck and still get kudos. In the end, fanfic isn't always about ability.

Pft. I haven't written fanfiction for myself since 2009. The fanfiction I write is based entirely on getting paid. (Well, okay, the Pacific Rim crossover was my mental junk food for 2014, but it still got started by me getting paid. Not my fault it hatched plot bunnies and took over.)

Thankfully, people generally pay me to write things they can't find otherwise, which means I get to write happy endings for random henchmonsters and Persona 4 Kate Bornstein. So usually it's at least something more interesting than, "Male A pines for Male B, Male B confesses undying love, there is humping."

Enh, not much. I try to discourage it, just because fanfiction is really difficult for me, plus all the legal bits of it.

But (health allowing) I generally run a writeathon every month, where for one week, I take prompts on a theme, and crank out stories based on them, which people pay for me to post. There's also bonuses and perks when folks are extra-generous.

When I'm feeling well, I can crank out as much as fourteen stories in a go, so every once in a while, someone will ask for fanfiction. They have to make sure I know the fandom first, because hell if I'm shotgunning a whole show for thirty bucks, even if it's one I want to see.

(Unfortunately, the past few months have not been good, health-wise, so I've had to slow down. But I'll be cranking up again in February.)

I love doing it! I was surprised at just how well it did; I've been doing it for almost two years now. I am just dismayed that the heart is willing but alas, the mind is weak.

The low period will pass. It always does. Till then, Patreon is kind enough to give some income so I can continue selling and posting stories leftover from writeathons past.
