Good Writing Feels

(Anonymous) 2015-01-16 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Do you ever read something you've written and just go yes. I did this. This is a thing that I made and it's good.

I've written the first fic I'm truly happy with in a long time and it feels fantastic.

I felt that way about the one real fic I ever finished. And then I never wrote anything again.

Yes - sadly this feeling tends to go away after a few months. A ear later, I'm like: How could I have written this!

I felt like that about all of my best academic writing. Just the other day I found a stray copy of a draft from my undergrad thesis paper and was still pretty proud of it.

Anything I wrote that really expressed my emotions. Even if I botched the technical aspects, it can still feel powerful to me.

That's great! It's an awesome feeling.

Honestly I can't imagine ever having a better audience than I am to myself. Even when I write something bad I just have so much fun with it. But it's a special feeling when I think it's good on top of that.

I feel like that about most of the stuff I do, honestly. It's why I do the things I do. Even the things I'm doing only because I'm getting paid, I usually feel pretty satisfied with my results.

Okay I'm going to tell you something. You feel this way about writing a fic. Then KEEP writing it.

The first and only time I wrote porn. It was incredibly smutty and I feel so satisfied over it.

Only ...time? Over 80% of what I write for fandom is highly self-indulgent porn.

I've written...3 fics? 3.5? I think 3.5. A gen and half a sequel. A dark fic. And the smut ;)

All under different pseudonyms so mwhahaha.

*drops fics on fandoms and runs*

Yes and it owns. And then you just keep chasing that dragon.

Everything I've been writing lately makes me feel proud. I'm starting to feel like I might not have to kill myself for bad writing after all!

Also I just wrote something with layers and symbolism and it's the first time I've really tried to do that consciously. And it has gotten some lovely reviews, so that made me feel great.

Sometimes, but very rarely does that feeling come immediately after I've written it. More often, it'll be re-reading it a while later and thinking "You know, this was kinda decent..."

I'm writing stuff for an older fandom now and I feel so relaxed about it because I know there won't be a huge response. It's fun.

Not to sound egotistical but I think most of what I write is good.

Super late to the party, but yes. I also get that with my drawing sometimes. I don't consider myself super skilled when it comes to drawing, but sometimes I finish something, and it's like everything with that drawing went exactly right in a way I did not think was possible. I love that feeling.
