I'm assuming you can write and therefore, I call bullshit on this. Either put up or shut up, but don't blame others for your lack of getting off your ass and doing something.

This is pretty much how I feel when people moan about people only wanting to write fluffy fic and not discuss the canon. There are apparently enough of you complaining about it so either do something or shut up about how other people are doing what apparently makes them happy instead of dropping that and catering to your needs.

The problem is that when you're in a situation where the fandom is eating up this flavorless slop, they often don't like or want fics that are plottier or have actual character development, no matter how hard you work on them or how skilled you are at writing. I'm not OP so I can't say what their situation is, but I write the kinds of fics that I want to see in my fandom, and there's next to no interest in them because they're just not what the readers want.

Unless you're in a fandom where the slop is only popular because there are very few dedicated writers and readers have no other options, getting off your ass and writing something better isn't going to revolutionize the fandom's fic output. It likely won't have an impact of any sort at all.

So what?

DA If you don't see why that's a sad state of affairs, then you are a sad, small human being.

NAYRT

So they did what you said, and still there's no change, so that pretty much negates your "call(ing) bullshit."

That's what.

DA

This is a totally accurate reflection of my fandom.

I've lost count of how many excellent, well-crafted fics have a handful of comments, and some wildly OOC excuse for badly-written sexfests have literally thousands.

Be it that it's what fandom wants, or what they think is popular and therefore good, there are people "getting off [their] ass and doing something" and it doesn't make one iota of difference.
