I almost always write characters as verse/switch/whatever where fandom will make one an exclusive top or bottom.

Mainly because this is what I find hot.

Same, but mainly because I don't understand the need fandom has to make one character a top and the other a bottom (and the very stereotypical characterizations that go along with it.)

There are very few pairings where I go: "yep that character is definitely a top/bottom."

For me it just depends on the pairing. Some pairings I'll happily designate as switches just because of their dynamics outside of the bedroom, but that also goes for certain pairings where I prefer a certain top or bottom. It's all about dynamics.
