I don't give a shit about it unless it's genderswapped.

And I intensely dislike a lot of the fics where Will sort of "gives in" to Hannibal, and/or is portrayed as a spineless blob of jelly. And it's all treated as adorable and cute, and Abigail is their adopted child, the end.

I haven't delved into the fandom much (mostly just reblog gifs on tumblr once in a blue moon) so I'm not intimately familiar with the way fandom ships it, but I agree with the adorable and cute part. The reason that relationship intrigues me in the first place is because it's fucked up. Take that away and it isn't the same pairing.

EXACTLY.

I'd much rather fandom acknowledge it as creepy and fucked up and ship it that way. Treating it as adorable and a healthy relationship is 1000% MORE creepy and fucked up, tbh.

Give me manipulative disturbing lady!Hannibal any day over woobie Will and a Hannibal who cries single tears.

I'm surprised more people aren't into the manipulation because...well, it's right there. It's the only thing that makes sense. Not going to say I don't enjoy a bit of happiness and fluff on occasion, but in this fandom I find the idea of it laughable.

Totally agree on the second part. I barely read fic anymore, but the sheer quantity of those fics made it really easy to stop reading in this fandom. So much bizarre characterization. Hannibal getting the murder family he wanted after Will angsts and cries for a chapter or two and then is suddenly, totally fine with it forever isn't a happy ending for anyone but Hannibal. It's good for some funny comics, though. I love them and their horrible relationship the way they are in canon and only ship them outside of that in a "maybe they had sex once or twice before the S2 finale and it was crazy hot, most likely after the ortolan or face-morph dinners" kind of way because I can't see anything beyond that working at all, lol.

OMG yes! It's completely out of character.

It makes me think they must be watching a different show, or they don't really WANT to read fic about Hannibal and Will, but about some other characters with the same names.

That's the most common fanfic trope in every fandom I've ever been in, lol. It's really hard to get someone else's characters right, so a lot of people don't try very hard and just plug their favorite character types into any given story.
