This isn't a specific fandom but a multifandom forum, but 9/10, if I post, the next poster completely ignores everything I just said. I know that's how it goes a lot of the time at forums, and that's partly why I started using LJ to begin with until LJ started dying and I tried finding forums again, but would it kill people to stop ignoring me? It's especially as annoying as it's the only active fandom space anymore, and apparently I'm doing something wrong.

it could be that they agree with you and don't have anything to add. on lj, DW, etc a lot of people will reply to comments just to say "this" or "+1" but I don't see that happening as often on forums.

AYRT - Yeah, but sometimes it'll be questions too, or a sort of follow up to a previous discussion, so I would think people would have something to add. You might be right though that sometimes they're just sort of nodding and adding something new.

I'm sorry, anon. I know how horribly frustrating that can be.

Do they ignore other people? Maybe you converse better IRL, anon. For example I'm terrible in online communication where you have to write. Argh. However it's not so bad if I really like some people on the forum, blog, etc.

Might be that they just agree and have nothing more to add, or that the content of your post doesn't necessarily invite further engagement. It might also be length or writing style. Do you keep your posts short and sweet? Are they relatively new points or rehashing old stuff? Do you invite discussion or ask people for their opinion?

I know it can feel very personal when it's your posts that aren't being addressed, but if you take a broader look then chances are it'll be happening to a lot of other people too.

If you want an example, take a look at F!S itself. How many comments aren't addressed, how many replies aren't answered, how many people raise points that no else picks up.

You're not doing anything wrong. Like you said yourself, it's how it goes a lot of the time.

AYRT - Yeah, you make a good point. I don't think it helps that some posters seem to make their points, then forget about the thread for a while, now that I really think about it. So whoever I responded to doesn't ever see (or care about) the response, and other people have newer topics in mind. Maybe.
