What about a specific fandom or fandom in general has been annoying you lately (can also be about fanart, fanfic, kink memes, etc)?

bonus points if it's not something SJW related that we already complain about all the time

Naruto fandom. I can't even enjoy my canon ships without a hundred whiney butthurt Narusaku shippers talking about waging war on Kishimoto and getting their canon/canon AU where NS happens. Just..give it up already, you lost. \

The only reason you thought NS was going to happen was because it's a cliche that the main character always gets the main girl (So glad he subverted that!) The second Sasuke came back Sakura was only thinking about him/tripping over herself to be near him/confessing her love for him right in front of Naruto. And Hinata spent all her time holding Naruto's hand/talking about how she WILL walk by him forever. OF COURSE NARUHINA/SASUSAKU HAPPENED. It was so damn obvious!

This is kind of SJW-ish but I feel like at the same time it's not:

Full disclosure (so you know where my biases are): My dad is POC and my mom is white and I love my mother completely and wholeheartedly -- there is nothing I wouldn't do for her.

But I find fandom really frustrating because it seems like certain segments of fandom really like to shit on white women. And I get that white people are privileged and I often agree with some of the arguments made. But…it seems like white women get targeted WAY more harshly and WAY WAY more often than WHITE MEN. And there just seems to be a huge anger and hatred against white women.

Especially if there's POC female character -- then all hell breaks loose.

And even the SJWs don't defend the white female characters in that case.

And I find it really hard to swallow because I love my mother and seeing people constantly rag on white women as though white women are this monolithic group really gets to me.

And it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't prop up white men and talk about how hot they are and ship them with all the POC women, but they DO.

Sorry it's SJW-related, but it's just been bothering me for a really, really long time.

I like perusing the Hobbit kink meme every once a while and certain people who write fem!Bilbo kind of grate on me. It's not really the idea of a genderbend Bilbo in general that bugs me, but a couple of the people who fill prompts and include it will do so even when the prompts don't mention anything at all about fem!Bilbo being desired. It just seems slightly rude to me to genderbend a character when the author clearly wanted slash in the prompt. In one case, someone did it anyway even when the prompt specifically asked that fem!Bilbo be avoided (because it's gotten to the point where people actually feel the need to put that in their prompts now). I mean, it's not really a huge deal or anything. It just kind of annoys me

This isn't a specific fandom but a multifandom forum, but 9/10, if I post, the next poster completely ignores everything I just said. I know that's how it goes a lot of the time at forums, and that's partly why I started using LJ to begin with until LJ started dying and I tried finding forums again, but would it kill people to stop ignoring me? It's especially as annoying as it's the only active fandom space anymore, and apparently I'm doing something wrong.

I've seen this in a lot of my fandoms. People bending nice parent characters OOC to be abusive because the author wants to write angst or something.

Like especially when there are already abusive characters in the canon, but they twist nice people into evil abusive parents.

I swear I'll never forget this Harry Potter fic where Hermione had and over the top abusive father who was so obsessed with keeping her around that he crashed her wedding to try and get her back. It was like a freaking Lifetime Movie Network thing.

I mean half of the annoyance is that they're ruining characters I love and the rest of it is that often the writing is so bad its like an afterschool special or a Very Special Episode.

Lately a lot of people I follow on tumblr have been expressing vehement disgust about anything sex related (like, if you talk about sex or write porn I think you are disgusting and I hate you). I guess it's some kind of backlash against people who try to taunt people who identify as asexual with porn. Idk, it's a little annoying to me though.

For the Hobbit, I'm really happy with all the new Bard/Thranduil stuff BUT I'm really annoyed with how most of the writers are characterizing Thranduil, especially as they have him smirking all the time. It seems like the most superficial reading of him.

I'm also not a huge fan of Bard being so insecure in the relationship. I can see where they're coming from and it's not always done badly but I personally think that Bard is a single father and leader of a people; he's not going to be blushing and losing his train of thought because Thranduil is just so pretty.

And, I've said this before, but I've come to really hate how every fic mentions Legolas leaving. I hated that plot point in the movie and I wish there was some way to tag it so I could avoid it but it's usually only one quick mention so I can definitely see why people wouldn't tag it but as soon as I see it, I don't like the fic anymore.

It annoys me how the Internet is basically in an endless state of backlash to things, and backlash to backlash to things, and so on to infinity. It is exhausting.

Babylon 5 fandom (more a specific person): I love Londo too. You don't get some kind of special award for being some 16 year old kid attracted to an older, overweight, not conventionally attractive dude. Half of tumblr is attracted to weird looking old white dudes and is convinced their attraction makes them special.

Legend of Korra fandom: Stop saying you are "Wuko trash." Half the fandom ships them. It's not a crack ship.

I think I'm getting too old for Tumblr, tbh. I'm really feeling the "these people are are like 15 years younger than me" vibe now.

I'm some 350 pages into E. Gaskell's 'North and South', and there are two things that bother me:

1) Why am I supposed to like John Thornton?? Am I supposed to like him? In the course of the novel he hasn't performed a single act of kindness that wasn't motivated by selfishness in some shape or form. He's certainly not a cliche "bad guy" figure, but he really hasn't done a single thing that would make me like him even a little, much less sympathize with Margaret's growing love for him.

2) The fact that the fandom is so absolutely concentrated on Margaret/Thornton. It's like the Higgins family or the clash of different mentalities that makes the novel so interesting never existed. This makes me worry that Gaskell ended up completely derailing her own work and simply discarding the "North vs. South" issue.

I mean, yeah, this probably has something to do with me missing the point of just about every single romance out there - as evidenced by the fact that I was genuinely surprised to find Margaret/Thornton shippers in the #NorthandSouth tag (as opposed to, IDK, clever meta on the social conflicts depicted in the novel). But still. How is the romance the most interesting part of this book?

I am *still* tired of the eruri fandom in snk. There was an eruri week event recently and I really hoped to revive my interest in the pairing but nope. It just sucks.
I want to write a post-acwnr fic that deals with their awful non-relationship and try to turn it into something that works but that sort of fic will probably have 0 readers because nobody wants to read about Erwin and Levi *not* working and not being fluffy.

Don't think I don't notice that you cut out and ignore his second in command for every single little boyband meta, fic or art. Fucccck you guys I hope he's dead in the sequel.

tldr Dishonored tag is mostly Daud, the whalers minus Billie (because girl), more daud, daud and fucking daud.

Woobified villains always and forever bugs me. Especially in fandoms where you would in no way expect it.

The number of woobified!Sauron fics I've found lately... disturbs me greatly. I mean, yes, I've been mostly reading Sauron fics, but still. And a special shoutout to the author who wrote a fairly graphic chapter of him having his minions torture people just to get to the person you paired him with and yet them still ending up happy and him repenting and all the blame being laid on other characters. What the hell?

The lack of fandom for cooking shows, at least in places I can find. I've been watching them lately, and I want to talk about them. Masterchef, Top Chef, Iron Chef, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and all the rest. Where is the fandom? Other popular reality shows have fandoms.

Human!formers in the Transformers fandom. I can go read a yaoi manga if I want to see two guys fuck. I look at Transformers to see the robots fuck and kill each other. This goes for bot/human fics. I totally ship Optimus and Cade Yeager and most of the fic has Optimus using a human holoform. STOP IT! Be creative. Someone else in the fandom writes amazing Optimus/Mikaela Banes fanfics and has them fuck without Optimus using the human holo, so it can be done.

The people who call you an abuse apologist if you agree with way Megatron treats Starscream in every iteration of Transformers. Never mind the fact that Starscream tries to kill Megatron and take over 99% of the time.

Everybody bitching about the lack of fembots in the upcoming RiD cartoon. Have we forgotten that Transformers was originally meant to be marketed to boys? Yeah, okay, I really liked TFP Arcee, but that's because she felt fully fleshed out and didn't feel like she was stuck there just to have a girl on the team. (TFP wasn't perfect but I think it was a damn good series.)

The people who claim every new series of Transformers is going to suck without seeing it first. Way to be judgmental.

FINALLY, my last annoyance is a general one to all fandoms everywhere: People who bitch and say something sucks because the source material didn't go the way they personally wanted it to.

This is incredibly stupid and minor and two years late, but it still really bugged me.

So, Pacific Rim fandom. The main character walks around like he got groinkicked a day or two prior. And I end up finding this really weird random tumblr thread about how the reason he walks like that is because he's got MALNUTRITION and for some reason DOESN'T HAVE A BELT and omg poor woobie.

Obviously, it was stupid and trivial, and I was annoyed at myself for even caring, but I'm a recovering starver. And it was... kinda unsettling for me to see people kinda woobifying this character for something that really fucked up my life.
