And I LOVE OhCaptainMyCaptain's work (particularly Bang My Boyfriend).

I wish people would read more of thegraytigress. She may be my favorite gen author ever. AO3 seems to not understand her awesomeness, tbh.

I agree. I adore her genfic and wish she got more attention.

I will admit, though, that I find her het fic a bit more difficult to get into -- not sure why. Maybe it's because I usually prefer to read het from the female perspective.

I don't care for Steve/Natasha so I stick to her (amazing) gen fics. I want a new one damn it!

You know, I don't mind the idea of Steve/Natasha in theory but the way they interacted in The Winter Soldier made it really hard for me to ship them.

In large part because it seems like Natasha almost views Steve as a mentor or father figure. Certainly an ideal. But it seems like she really, really, really wants him to approve of her and trust her. She places enormous weight on his opinion of her. And I have a hard time shipping them because of that.

Steve, for his part, seems to desperately want a FRIEND.

I don't know if I'm making a lot of sense here? I guess that's just the impression I came away with and it makes it really hard for me to actively ship them.

I totally get it. For me, I just love seeing platonic male/female friendships. Like Booth and Brennan before they fucked that up. Or Eliot and Parker from Leverage.

Actually, I love the idea of Natasha viewing Steve as a big brother. I also love that dynamic in male/female friendships (see Parker and Eliot).

Huh. I was just thinking when I rewatched it yesterday that the "Not my first kiss since 1945" scene in the pickup truck was Natasha going "...well fuck. I guess being friendzoned IS a thing. That's a new experience."
