I don't have quite as clear a dichotomy, because my fandom ships are all over the map and are nowhere near exclusively slash, but I have noticed an odd lesbian trend in my original stuff as well. It's not exclusively femslash either, but I have noticed that in bigger casts I tend to forget romance a lot with the exception of about one or two pairs, and those few pairs are unusually likely to be female pairs. It's happened to me at least four times, that the only actually explicit relationship turns out to be a pair of (usually older) women.

Apparently, there is a particular dynamic that appeals to me when I've got free reign with both characters and story: older women, with usually a mild brains & brawn sort of dynamic going on, and for some reason usually a difference of political opinion/loyalty relevant to the plot.
