Newb doll collector with a question

(Anonymous) 2015-01-18 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently purchased some Monster High dolls, and they all came out of the box with their hair all gross and tangled and clumpy. It took a TON of combing to get them to look nice. I've never had this problem with Barbies. Is this normal, or do I have shitty luck?

Poking my head into a Monster High subforum in my usual toy hangout gives me the impression that the dolls are notorious for the glue seeping out of the head and into the hair.

I collect my little pony brushable figures, and they usually have a rat's nest of hair when they come out of the package. I'm not sure if this will work for your dolls, but if I wash their hair using normal shampoo and then dry it in the sun, it's more manageable and can be styled.

Uhm what? No. The hair styles are normally heavily sprayed down so they keep the 'look' they wanted them to have. You are destroying their hair styles but combing it out. It sounds more like you are talking them out of the box wrong. You should be using a excato blade very very carefully.

It's glue seepage. It's not supposed to be like that, but it's a known manufacturing issue with the dolls.

You can try and shampoo it out, but it'll just keep on getting greasy again. Some people have had success with using talc powder: http://nocturna-fangor.tumblr.com/post/66085991848/solution-to-the-monster-high-greasy-hair-glue

Personally, I just braid back my dolls' hair when I get one with this problem.
