Re: The Hobbit movie....

Well, I loved them. I loved that there were three of them. I loved that they were long. And I love that, by next Christmas, we will have extended versions of all of them. (I cannot understand why people grumble about getting value for money. For me, the moment when the elves vaulted over the dwarves' shield wall alone was worth the price of admission).

Of the three, the third was my favourite, but I'm biased, because I love Legolas and DoS was disappointing from a Legolas point of view, but BoFA made up for it with less CGI-tinkering on his face, and more cool action.

I didn't always like PJ's decisions -- there were lines I felt were leaden and, for me, Alfrid outstayed his welcome -- but I've no doubt that every decision he made was carefully considered, and I really have to grit my teeth when people accuse him of 'laziness'.

I'm glad you enjoyed them!

Oh, I definitely wouldn't say laziness is Jackson's problem. I think it's more not having enough time to do the massive amount of cool props, miniatures and on site shooting vs. green screen. Though I'm not sure how much of that is "not enough time" and how much is "poor judgment". There are many cases (in the original trilogy too) where I thought that the decisions were bad ones. I understood why they did it that way and I don't doubt they put a lot of thought into it... but I still felt they were bad, or at least, didn't add anything to the movie. Stuff like "Arwen's life is tied to the riiiiing!", the whole Faramir thing, the addition of a poor and badly used female elf character (when I so wanted her to be awesome), overly long action sequences, Alfrid (ugh), too much CGI work that looks like a computer game, etc.

They tried. I'm glad they tried, but ultimately, the Hobbit movies were so far from what I'd hoped and so far from what they're capable of delivering that it's disappointing.
