We just watched the extended version of the first movie tonight, and Elrond says that Aragorn could unite the race of men; he definitely implies that Aragorn is going to be the king of everybody if he accepts his role as Isildur's heir. I realize that may not jive with the original canon, but it seems to be what the movies were going for.

I think Theoden gets away with not being beholden to send help to Gondor because the king has been absent for forever and Denethor has clearly lost his mind; we haven't rewatched the second movie yet, so I don't remember what exactly he says.

Hmm, it didn't occur to me that that was implied by the movie. As you say, it isn't canon (in which it's definitely stated that Aragorn was king everywhere but Gondor), but that's an interesting idea.

Hope you had fun with your rewatch!

Do you mean everywhere but Rohan? :)

OMG, Nonnie, I had a blast. It's been a few years since I watched the trilogy, and I enjoy it more and more every time I watch it.

"I would have gone with you to the end."

*sob sob sob sob sob*

Also, Sam is kinda the best character ever. EVER, I SAY! LOL

Whoops, everywhere but Rohan, yes!

LoTR the book AND the movies are things I wish I could have mind-wiped so I could enjoy them again over and over. As it is, the movies are a bit long for me to watch regularly, so it's a real treat when I do.

Could do without a lot of the walking, but in fairness, that's about 80% of the book. And yes, Sam is an absolute sweetheart.

We just started rewatching the Two Towers.

I have hearts in my eyes. :)
