"Light D/s" is basically some characters getting into more "fleeting" and "shallow" BDSM play in bed, only (i.e. there won't be kinks that can leave marks or signs of any kind for longer than a day or two, it's really just for when they're in bed, etc.) "Heavy D/s" is more of a character being dominant not just for sexual purposes but other ones as well (sometimes a 24/7 deal, sometimes it just means being a bit bossy or domineering in contexts outside of bed, etc.), and/or there are kinks that have a more long-term affect (so serious bruises or marks, more psychologically-involved kinks, etc.)
