I sometimes think I'm kind of an alien here on F!S, not so much because of anything political, but because everyone here seems to be in the same types of fandoms, and everyone has seen certain shows or if not, everyone is expected to at least has some familiarity with them. I've seen anons here get accused of being trolls because they didn't recognize some actor from one of the Big Live-Action TV Fandoms (probably Supernatural or Teen Wolf... this has happened a few times, so maybe it was both of them).

I'm not in any Big Live-Action TV Fandoms, I don't watch any currently airing anime, and I rarely go to see movies, so I feel really out of the loop for a lot of discussion that goes on here.

Tbh, I feel like there's not a lot of people here who follow airing anime regularly.

I'm out of the loop a lot too. Often my main thought is "oh hey, I think my friend likes that..." But I recognize enough to keep coming back (plus I just find a lot of fandom culture fascinating) and I like the General Comments.

General Comments are 9/10ths of the reason I keep coming back here.

Same here! I'm not in any TV fandoms. The only movie fandom I'm in is MCU. I don't watch anime, but I used to and F!S is so rabidly anti-anime at times it's a little ridiculous. Basically my fandoms are all video games, so I'm out of the loop 99% of the time. I've never found 4chan to be much worse than any other big fandom site, and I've been a regular there for almost ten years. I've been in fandom since the mid-90s and I never liked LJ as a fandom platform.

I'm also a dude, and a business owner (though I'm mentally ill, queer as fuck, and a flaming liberal, so that earns me some oppression olympics points) and I suspect if I had an account a lot of people here would hate me on principle.

I've never seen any sort of anti-business sentiment on FS. Anti-male, occasionally, but that's usually one anon who's getting shouted down by anyone else. I think you'd do fine.

I feel similarly because I don't watch movies until they're available on DVD and often wait for a good deal. It just seems like everyone expects people to see movies in the theaters or to torrent and to be up on them that way. I do feel out of the loop and like I'm doing fandom wrong.

I feel a little out of the loop too because I'm older than most of the posters and at a different place in my life. However, even when I'm feeling out of step, I still find good things that keep me coming back.

The only reason I know anything of Supernatural/Teen Wolf/Big Current Live-Action TV/Theater Thing beyond what TV ads and trailers show is because of F!S.

There are more people reading F!S than commenting on F!S, so we're probably not very alone in this.

I'm into western animation so a lot of the secrets about LA and anime don't make much sense to me. Mostly I pay attention to secrets about fanfic and general trends in media/fandom. I also find some threads in the general discussion section interesting, too.
