The most WTF errors you've made/seen/heard

(Anonymous) 2015-01-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yesterday I randomly remembered this one time, ages ago, when I was complaining to someone about school and how much I hated it all, and I tried to make some dumbass comment like "I'm just gonna drop out and become a prostitute", except somehow I accidentally said "lawyer" instead of "prostitute", and I still have no fucking clue how that happened.

So. Share yours?

For some reason, the word "slut" always makes me think of ice cream.

I simply think this community deserves a better class of asshole. Is that so much to ask?

Well, there was the time in college where we were having this meeting for people interested in maybe being lawyers. And I didn't know what the term "litigator" meant and didn't understand that it meant all lawyers who are in the courtroom. I thought it meant just the "ambulance chaser" type of lawyers.

So one of the lawyers happened to mention that they weren't a litigator, and I said something about litigators being the lawyers that give the rest of them bad names or something. I can't remember exactly, but it was awful and embarrassing when I figured out later that I misunderstood the term.

Many years ago, possibly before I was born, my parents found a catalog of books that was selling "The Velveteen Rabbit" except it was misprinted as "The Velveteen Rabbi."

It's still among the gold-standard for typos for me, because it's something that a spell-checking program wouldn't catch AND not something that anyone would do without knowing the proper spelling (like the ubiquitous twitter cologne/colon confusion).

OMG Velveteen Rabbi. That is amazing.

Actually, you could really do something cool with that premise, since it's all about becoming real. A golem rabbi who wants to become a real person, and how that impacts his faith!

Does that mean he's a cloth golem that someone put together out of rags and old shtreymlech?

Why not? I was imagining the traditional clay kind that can pass for human under most circumstances, but that works too.

It was 2am. I was riding in a subway car with a friend of mine, and we were discussing sleep patterns. Not a moment before that I was telling them that sleep deprivation screwed me up royally every time I had a sleepless night, and that I felt like I was drunk. Now, I was going to continue in the same vein, starting with the phrase "although I have always considered myself an owl rather than a lark"; instead, I said, very slowly and very distinctly: "Although... you know, I've always considered myself... a crow".

And then I just stopped because I had absolutely no clue wtf I just said and how I was supposed to proceed.

my brother was telling a story about how a video game was really scary, to an employee at a game store, and he was going to say that he almost shit his pants, but there was a kid nearby and he stopped himself from saying "shit" and said "I almost dropped my pants!" instead
