Honestly, I usually feel slightly off in ANY online community. There's a reason I tend not to last more than three years in any one; I just wander off. Usually, my MO is to meet the people I like, become friends with them, and then I don't feel like I need the comm anymore and leave, because I always feel kinda weird.

It happened with DeviantArt, it happened with the multiplicity comms on LJ, it's happened with tumblr, it happened with We Hunted the Mammoth. I'm okay with that.

I just researched what the hell We Hunted the Mammoth is. Incidentally, I have a new addition to my list of favorite paintings: http://wehuntedthemammoth.com/2013/01/12/pickup-artistry-victorian-style/

I really liked We Hunted the Mammoth, and a bunch of my best fans came from there. I still miss being there, honestly, but the transphobia reached levels I was DEEPLY uncomfortable with, and I left. This was definitely the right decision; it apparently only exploded more after my departure.

Most of the commenters there are really good people, and I love the snark and freewheeling atmosphere where the rule isn't "don't feed the trolls," it's "shove it down their throats till they explode." It was the one place on the Internet where I didn't feel constantly in education mode, where I knew that if I got trolled, the commentariat would come down on them like a sack of hammers.

But I do not feel comfortable returning while transphobia is such a big thing there.
