So...because she's literally a two dimensional, cardboard cut out, evil-just-for-the-sake-of-being-evil villain, she stands out? Idk, this reason's been given multiple times in this thread, but given the internet's typical hateboner for 2D villains with no motivation it still puzzles me.

I think for me characters like Maleficent give me the creeps because they are not only ruthless and unapologetic, but capricious. You never know when they will turn on you, or what they'll take umbrage to. That uncertainty can be scary to certain personality types.

Some people thrive on chaos, others don't. If you thrive on it, you might not understand why it could be scary. :)

"All-powerful immortal fucking with the mortals because they're there" is classic faerie schtick. If you're not into it, that's fine. IHowever, i's certainly not any more "2D" than the "villain wants to take over the world" cliche (Scar, Ursula, Jafaar), so your premise on what the internet is looking for in its villains may be flawed.
