On AO3, generally the kudos-to-hits ratio. How many of the people who clicked on it liked it, basically. 1-to-10 kudos-to-hits is what I usually hope for, at least for the initial rush, because it'll trail off later no matter what happens. Comments are lovely, but I usually think of them as bonuses rather than criteria.
