1. using an asterisk with 'trans'
2. using 'trans' as a noun
CLEARLY you know what you're talking about.

I'm not sure how being out of touch with the spelling of the week automatically disqualifies op from having any knowledge of Japanese cultural tropes tho

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
They probably are following the advice of a transsexual individual. Just an older person.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
do people not use the asterisk anymore? it seems like everyone was doing it a year or so ago. I got bitched at once for asking why it was there lol

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Some of us trans* people still prefer the asterisk, but you keep on being a dick to those people who bothered to learn even a little bit of correct terminology. That'll teach 'em.

What does my spelling have to do with what I said? That's a trope in Japan, they're not meant to be seen as women. They're 100% male, but sexually appealing to women for essentially crossdressing/playing up the feminine angle.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
not denying their appeal to women, but i'm pretty sure traps are more of a male oriented fetish with anime at least.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-21 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not talking about "traps". I'm talking about feminine men/men that dress 'girly'. Think Kurama from YuYu, Zoisite from Sailor Moon, Mytho from Princess Tutu, etc.

90% of visual kei bands, etc. I'm pretty damn straight but I'm not going to lie that most of my favourite musicians are my favourites because not only are they amazing musicians but they make amazing women.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-22 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
...when the fuck did the asterisk fall out of favor?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-22 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's been out of use for at least a year because it has roots in transmisogyny and 'trans' is already an umbrella term, so the asterisk doesn't actually do anything.

I don't even know what acceptable terminology is anymore, man. I can't be the only one thinking this is getting a little ridiculous.
