Usually I go hits/kudos ratio (or hits/comments for ff.net, where people still comment way more than on ao3). Usually good for me is a kudo for every 10 hits - any less and I consider it a bit of a flop.
I have one fic that got really popular, though, and has quite a lot of kudos, and at that point the hit count is skewed because I think a lot of it is rereads and stuff. So there it's just a large number.

You must have a very responsive fandom, or at least not get a lot of rereads. Even the most popular fics in my fandoms don't have that good of a hits/kudos ratio.

Like I said, when fics get really popular it kind of skews. My most popular fic has nearly 50k hits and 3k kudos, but in most of my less than 10k-hits fics the ratio approaches 10/1.
The fandom is slowing down these days, and also got pretty big, so I'm getting lots fewer hits in general. I cheer myself up by maintaining the ratio, even though I don't have as many in number.
And maybe it is a very responsive fandom, idk. I have a friend in SPN and the numbers there are insane...
