That's completely justified. Multidimensional epics are the worst.

Believe me, you're not alone. I suspect the author lost a lot of fans when he switched to Horrors of the Patriarchy all the time instead of anything vaguely amusing.

Seriously, sell me on this

I loved old Sinfest, and I wanted to love new Sinfest. I ditched out because it was spinning in circles and going nowhere. Tell me what to skip over and where to start reading, and I'll try to get back into it.

I tried so hard to like his new stuff, but I bailed last year and haven't looked back. It was chasing it's own tail in a cycle of self-loathing and guilt. I don't mind growth. I don't mind the exploration of serious topics. I don't mind character development. But it was a awful, stagnant pool of negativity and I had to get away from it.

This comment perfectly reflects my opinion of current Sinfest.

Also, I love your I Harth Darth icon.

Ooh, that doesn't sound good. Do you mean, like, the creator hating how he used to be, or hating the comic as it is now, or what?

Young Tat was a bit crass, but had good moments. A couple of years ago, Tat started doing self-flagellating strips about how he was supposedly too sexist.

Well, he was sexist. But a lot of us liked him anyway.

I think the strip got old and boring, and there were retcons, and it shifted genre from wacky fun to action, and it lost fans.

But the most vocal critics hate the feminist stuff, which creates the impression that it's about feminism.

I think the genre shift hurt it too, and the cast bloat (the unupdated character page is a problem), and some other stuff.

Self-flagellating shit bothers me. It's just like, dude, I don't need your tears, just CHANGE. (If indeed, that's the problem.) And ugh, that cast bloat sounds pretty rough. I am really bad about getting into webcomics, because I can't keep up with the fast ones, and the bigger the archive, the less likely I am to jump in.

When he started the comic, he used a lot of un-PC language, but was very tolerant in a lot of ways. Even the characters who were supposed to be wrong in their beliefs were portrayed sympathetically. Then he started getting more feminist, and the un-PC language went away, but there was still a wide variety of interesting and sympathetic characters. Then he got more feminist. And more feminist. And more feminist. And eventually, it got the point where the designated "feminist" characters can do pretty much anything without being called out on it by anyone except strawmen, and the characters who aren't "feminist" or are "feminist" in the wrong way are just around to be mocked and say stupid shit.

Yeah, that sounds kinda troubling. Reminds me of the meltdown the creator of Pictures of Sad Children had, though it sounds like it didn't get that bad. :\

This is the perfect illustration of why SJW and holier-than-thou Tumblrites demanding perfectly PC works of art will only make fiction a bland and excruciating domain if we bow to their wish, then.

Is anyone surprised?

Holy cow. It's like a little slice of Know Your Meme in FS. All that's left is for you to insist you're not racist because you always use really long words when you say that black people are basically animals.

Image: two strips from the webcomic Sinfest. The art in the one on the top is much more polished.

Text: THIS [arrow to the top strip] IS A GREAT WEBCOMIC.

It went from a silly comic about awful people to a multidimensional epic with fully-realized characters, all dealing with the complex issues of feminism and patriarchy in a clear-eyed way. The artist even holds himself accountable for his earlier work.

…BUT GOD HELP ME, I LIKED THE OLD VERSION SO MUCH BETTER.

I kinda miss it and I kinda don't. The Discovery of Feminism train, especially via the fembot storyline, alternates between being badass and touching and being severely overstated and cloying, but I can't say I'm mad about all the female characters forming awesome relationships with each other and having adventure the continuation of on-point humor that don't have to leave a bad taste behind to get a point across. I really wish he'd get the fuck on with the Lil E subplot that's one of the best parts of this new era.

I like his newest stuff.

His old stuff was okay. Then there was the awkward overcompensating stage. But now I really like all the current story lines with the overdramatic robots and death chasing the old man and the ?girl!satan? etc

Kinda miss the large multi panel comics on his pets tho.
