Well, you have to be good at lying if you're going to go around telling people stuff like that.

Wait…are you suggesting he was lying to me about his service?

No chance of that actually. When I google his name, it confirms a BIG part of his story. Moreover, I've seen his CV and it lists his military service and what branches he was part of, along with medals he earned.

So he may have fudged the truth here and there (understandable, given his line of work). But on the whole, what he told me is credible.

Because no one ever lies on their CV

that said, I don't know what other confirmation you have. But there's a high incidence of people saying shit like that being liars.

Well sure you can lie on your CV. But given that you can look up the recipients of medals online, that's a tad tougher to fake.

I should mention, though, that HE never told me a lot of this directly. It was usually pestering from our boss that pulled more info out of him. But he wasn't in any sense a braggart and the biggest part of his story I could confirm online (and that ALONE is a pretty cool story...that would unfortunately reveal his identity).

DA, playing Devil's Advocate.

If you can look up things online, then so can the person trying to fool you. If you're going to make up elaborate lies and histories, then people do their research. There have also been cases of people setting up fake websites, fake social media accounts etc., all in preparation for their scam.

Unless, of course, this online proof has his actual photo on it receiving the medals. If it was text only, I wouldn't take that as proof of anything conclusive.

Okay, but what would be the point of faking being some sort of secret agent in your actual CV?

In many cases, it might work against you (especially if it's implied you might have killed people)

I mean, if it's to try and get into other government agencies, THEY are the most likely to have the means to see through a fake CV.

And for jobs like security and the like....you basically need zero credentials, just the right attitude.

So the only reason I can think of if this has become some delusional fantasy, but you have to be pretty far gone for that.
