I mentioned this before, but - you know that thing that happens in soap series where relatives you didn't know about suddenly show up, and everyone always says how unrealistic that trope is...
Yeah, guess who is the one sucker that happened to in real life.

But really, half of my life is a soap opera and the other's a bad Marvel plot. I also went to this special school founded b a weird bald professor. Sadly I still can't lift things with m mind, though.

I also had waaay to many "close calls", like the proverbial version of the bomb being defused one second to detonation.

On the relative one, in my case my family were the 'long lost relatives you didn't know you had' trope, though the circumstances surrounding the incident aren't humourous and for perfectly understandable reasons my father's half-siblings want nothing to do with him or us by extension.

In m case it's a half-sibling, that m father failed to mention to my mother when they married. After she did find out, she and that side of the family sort of decided I musn't be told. Of course I found out eventually.

Man keeping that stuff from kids never works, they will find out.

Honestly I'm baffled it took as long as it did.

I also don't understand the need to keep stuff like that a secret, unless there's bad history with the unknown relatives I don't see the harm in telling a kid about half or step-families.

I don't really know to this day. My best bet is that really the wanted to pretend she doesn't exist at all, and me showing interest in knowing her would have made that harder.

I gained a middle aged auntie this year (tldr my grandma put her first baby up for adoption, she passed away, the evidence was found, hunting happened and 2nd jan 2015 my mum met her older sister for the first time!)

I wouldn't be surprised if our family has more like that were a mixed bunch

And keep running into distant cousins all over the place.

At this point I would be surprised about anything in that sense. He, I even know I have an uncle out there that I never met.
