I didn't mean to suggest that my dad was shitty -- he was quite the opposite, and I loved him to bits -- but I was always his child, even when he was very ill and I was taking care of him. He was just nothing like Coulson!

Wait, he was still treating you like nothing more than his child even when you were his adult caretaker? Buh?

Like, it's great that he was great and you loved him, but you gotta understand, when you imply that it's not normal for fathers to admire their children as people, that...comes across as really fucking weird and Not Good.

I think we're talking at cross purposes, because I don't think that what I'm describing is fucking weird at all... It's something I've seen in parent-child relationships -- the parent always sees the child as... Well, as his or her child, no matter how old the child is.

And I don't see that attitude in Coulson. Skye isn't part of him, she's a separate person. His regard for her is not based on familial ties.

Sounds great to me, and it feels as though all the people trying to down your dad have very strange ideas themselves.

Thank you.

When I mentioned him, it never occurred to me that people would attack him. Naïve of me!

Or, now you mention it, that people would think a (good, as it happens) parent-child relationship was a Bad Thing.
