I've lived in Vancouver, but I don't know if I can be the biggest help. What exactly do you mean by cottaging? I mean, what activities would the characters be doing? And how rich are they?

I guess I'd say if you were vacationing in a cottage, maybe over at Vancouver Island (about 2 hours from the city, and you take a ferry to get there.) If the character had family on the Island, or were rich I'd say they could own one. I know you can rent cottages there too, but I'm guessing it's also pretty darn expensive.
