Sort of related, kinda, but Dreamworks just laid off 500 people. HTTYD2 tanked and it cost them a lot of money. You'd think they'd learn something from Frozen's success (Elsa's popularity among its target audience was summed up as "'cause she has powers!") but no. I highly doubt Home is going to do well, since it's been done a thousand times before. Then there's that Wishnick moving they're doing...why? I can understand Kung Fu Panda 3/HTTYD3, but those...

I think they need to A) Reconsider what they make (what is Larrikins? DAGAF about Boss Baby?) and B) Fix their advertising. Too often have I heard "Well, it LOOKED stupid but it was actually really good when I saw it three years later on cable"

I absolutely have to agree with that second point. Nothing that's come out has looked interesting to me, but when I've been forced to watch (ie, hanging with the nieces and nephews), I have enjoyed quite a few of them.

I have to agree with that as well. I remember the Croods looked awful, but when I saw it I loved it.

Yeah, I think they take too many risks on weird/mediocre ideas. It's a shame, because they've done some wonderful movies in the past (Prince of Egypt was beautiful/the songs were memorable, Megamind was great)

I agree with the second point. There's been a lot of Dreamworks films where I thought it sounded incredibly stupid, and the only thing that convinced me to see it was word of mouth online. I absolutely loved How To Train Your Dragon, but the advertisements for it convinced me not to see it until I saw all the positive feedback the film was getting.

If the last two times I went to the movies are any indication, Home will do well. There was a whole ripple of "I wanna see that!" whispers from kids during the preview. I don't remember the last time I heard that much consistent enthusiasm for a movie preview.
