I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was award winning amazing, which is it's own class.

On the other hand, I also ended up annoyed at HTTYD2 after loving the first one, so there's that. I guess that means that OP and the people OP are talking about would both hate my opinions, but oh well.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-23 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
HTTYD2 was such a bloated mess after the beautiful simplicity of the first one :\ I was disappointed too

I absolutely adored it.

But I don't understand how anyone thought it would be nominated, let alone win anything.

It's sitting on my DVR. I'll probably watch it this weekend. I still haven't seen HTTYD 2.

Sort of related, kinda, but Dreamworks just laid off 500 people. HTTYD2 tanked and it cost them a lot of money. You'd think they'd learn something from Frozen's success (Elsa's popularity among its target audience was summed up as "'cause she has powers!") but no. I highly doubt Home is going to do well, since it's been done a thousand times before. Then there's that Wishnick moving they're doing...why? I can understand Kung Fu Panda 3/HTTYD3, but those...

I like this secret. Haven't seen any of these movies, but I will vicariously join in your schadenfreude.

I liked it well enough but I never through it was fantastically amazing or anything, just a nice fun movie.

I was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I could even over look the Will Ferrell because I liked all the rest so much.

People just can't distinguish between "movie I liked" and "Oscar-worthy movie". Very popcorn worthy, though!

I enjoyed it, but I'm kinda glad it didn't get nominated because I expected it to be the juggernaut that was guaranteed the win, and now it feels like more of a wide open field (anything that gives Princess Kaguya a better shot at winning is a plus in my book).

I'm surprised at how many people thought a toy commercial would be in the running for an Oscar. Yes, it was a clever and awesomely entertaining toy commercial, but still.

I'm not outraged but if I'm thinking mainly of the technical/creative challenges of making the movie, I would think TLM is undeniably a big achievement.

Text: I thought this movie was overrated. I wanted it to go away but everyone kept quoting it when it came out and then started spamming gifsets as soon as it hit the DVD market.

The internet has its panties in a twist now over its Golden Globe loss and lack of Oscar nom. Meanwhile, I’ve been over here bustin’ out the popcorn gifs and cackling my ass off.

Everything is finally awesome.

b!s HTTYD 2 totally deserved the win! Good job, judges!

I thought it was surprisingly entertaining, but never for a second did I think it would win an Oscar.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-23 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get what Tumblr's hard on for the Oscars is all about, anyway.

I usually never care about their line up and it seems like categories like 'best animated movie' and 'best effects' were made to draw in people who don't usually watch that kind of awards show to begin with.

Like... nice job cramming in every superhero movie of the year into 'best effects', guys.

You seem like a bitter asshole. I wasn't terribly impressed by the movie, but I'm not taking delight in shitting all over things my friends liked.

HtTyD didnt deserve the nom, and I hope it doesn't win as 'compensation' for it losing in 2010 since that was TS3's year.

But Lego Movie isn't that great either. I'm peeved there was so much outrage over TLM and so little over The Book of Life not getting a nomination, which it richly deserved.

I saw this in the cinema and hated it, so I can appreciate the schadenfreude. I'll admit some bias, because it was SO BRIGHT and SO LOUD non-stop that I had a splitting headache about half an hour in which rather soured the experience; but even independently of that I still thought it was a pretty poor film in just about every way that mattered.

That said, even I'd give it points for being visually impressive (in a blindingly colourful way). It does surprise me a bit that it doesn't get more credit for that.

wait, you thought the Lego movie was overrated but HTTYD2 deserved the Golden Globe? LMAO

if we're going to talk absolutely overrated movies, let's talk the completely garbage sequel that was HTTYD2 with its try-hard emotional manipulation and bloated "plotline." it's painfully obvious any success this piece of shit sequel is getting is to make up for its original film not winning as many awards as it deserved (even with its cliched storyline).

I finally saw The Lego Movie at Christmas, and was comprehensively underwhelmed. (Which I did not vocalize since everyone else in the room seemed to think it was Best! Ever!) I just don't get it. And I'm glad I didn't shell out to see it in the theatre.

(Also, HTTYD2 was darling and I don't care whether it actually deserved its nominations, I'm really glad it got them.)

Eh, I liked HTTYD 2, but I don't think it deserves the Oscar tbh.

HTYYD did, though.
