I've pretty much accepted that BioWare fandom will always find something to complain about. It's just what they do*. (I do it too, but in a different way and to a much lesser extent.)

I guess most large fandoms are like that to some degree, but it's very noticable with BioWare's fans.

IDK, I'm just here for the art, gifs, and fic. I like discussion, but I can't use tumblr for that and even if it were possible, I wouldn't because of all the shit I've heard about the fandom there. (The reddit is nice, but I'm not used to commenting on reddit, and get intimidated thinking about it.)

*Which is not to say that NO ONE has legitimate concerns, but some of it I just don't get.

I've found that Reddit really is one of the better places to discuss BioWare-related things (or lurk). It's the only way I can stomach the SWTOR fandom and the Mass Effect fandom these days if I want some actual discussion about game/story-related stuff. Tumblr side is good for gifs, graphics, art... and little else besides. Strictly imo, of course.

But yeah, that's just par for the course with BioWare fandom. I reckon it's because they're trying to be inclusive -and let's be real, they're the only AAA company that's really making an effort to do so-, which in turn only invites even more scrutiny(?) and criticism from people. I do think to some extent, they're trying too hard to please everyone, but they're in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, especially with the Dragon Age series (which is far more SJW-y in tone than Mass Effect and especially Old Republic).

Reddit is practically a sunny walk through a field of flowers compared to the BSN. Most people there (reddit, obviously not BSN, lmao) seem to be level-headed and enjoy in-depth discussion, so I can see why its become popular. I want to join in, I'm just shy.

Tumblr IS very good for art but I'll never understand how anyone could hold a discussion there, and it sounds like the worst fans have migrated there so it's probably best not to even try. Walking on eggshells all the time, fearful of someone singling you out is no way to fandom.

IA, there isn't anything BioWare can do to make all their fans happy. I AM glad they touch on the issues they do (even if it pisses some people off), but the fans are never going to stop picking it apart. That's just how these things seem to work.

I've been hanging out on r/dragonage lately, and the difference between the atmosphere there and tumblr is amazing. There's a lot of cool people and solid discourse, although there's a lot more stats-based talk than I go for personally.
