It really is right up there as far as insufferable fandoms go. I only look at the pretty fan art that occasionally rolls by my dash or I see in someone's favorites on DeviantArt, but I'd just as soon go knee-deep into the Superwholock morass than spend any millisecond of time in the Dragon Age fandom itself.

from what I've seen the IB stuff it not so much about 'IB as a romance' because that's actually handled pretty well. It's more to do with the relationship he enters with Dorian if neither of them are romanced because there's just a thread of stuff through it that seems OOC for the pair of them (especially when you compare how IB acts with a romanced Inquisitor and how that arc plays out)and just adds some rather uncomfortable stuff.

I feel like Dragon Age is one of those things where the harder the tr to have good representation and fleshed-out characters, the more shit they get.

I've pretty much accepted that BioWare fandom will always find something to complain about. It's just what they do*. (I do it too, but in a different way and to a much lesser extent.)

I guess most large fandoms are like that to some degree, but it's very noticable with BioWare's fans.

IDK, I'm just here for the art, gifs, and fic. I like discussion, but I can't use tumblr for that and even if it were possible, I wouldn't because of all the shit I've heard about the fandom there. (The reddit is nice, but I'm not used to commenting on reddit, and get intimidated thinking about it.)

*Which is not to say that NO ONE has legitimate concerns, but some of it I just don't get.

This secret is exactly why I have to avoid the tag on tumblr. The more you try to do something right, the more people find wrong. IB and the Inquisitor have sex before the BDSM-style rules are laid down, IT IS ALL WRONG. Literally everything about Sera? TERRIBLE! Krem's gender? NOT HANDLED PERFECTLY THEREFORE IT IS SHIT AND YOUR FEMINISM IS SHIT AND EVERYTHIGN IS SHIT BOYCOTT THIS GAME PROBLEMATIC PROBLEMATIC PROBLEMATIC*

I just feel like each time people in this fandom try to have a regular well-rounded conversation about things they didn't like something happens half-way and suddenly everyone's screaming, accusations are thrown left and right, character's are assassinated like it's a party in Tevinter just to make a point no one's quite clear on anyway.

And this is why my only participation is occasionally posting a screencap or two and reblogging pretty pictures. I mean, I'd love to talk about Dragon Age, but no way in Hell I'm touching that fandom with a ten-foot pole.

Ugh, yes. I didn't see much of this until I went on Tumblr and there it was. Cock-slapping me in the face.

I don't think it's exclusive to the Dragon Age fandom. My old anime fandoms when I was a teen were pretty drama-heavy too. I think the drama in Dragon Age just tends to be more social justice flavoured, and it gets draining if you take it seriously. I think part of it is the relative youth of the fandom. I'm only twenty-eight and I feel like I'm the oldest person on Tumblr. Young'uns aren't good at dealing with people who don't like the same things that they do, in general. I was the same at that age.

I never get involved in fandom anyway, but for Dragon Age I now actively avoid reading anything on tumblr or youtube (not a bad practice in general) because there are simply too many irritating people talking.

I saw a little bit of the thing about Iron Bull because a writer mentioned it on their fic, but it was still in the messy "problematic" dub-con area at that point.

I haven't heard what's been said about Sera, but I'm not on Tumblr and only go to look at DA Confessions, which has some good mods filtering the submissions.
