(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:43 am (UTC)(link)*obviously hyperbole but it's just so exhausting. Bioware just can't win despite being one of the only big-name companies who are even TRYING to give a fuck.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)And how was Krem's gender handled poorly? Like, how? I'm genuinely curious what the hell the argument was, because I'm not trans, but I thought Krem was really well done. His "real" gender is asserted by Iron Bull, Cole, and Krem himself, if you choose to talk to him.
The only thing that made me double-take is that the qunari are apparently okay with being transgender. Considering the strict gender roles they have, and the whole "you can't change your station, a farmer is always a farmer even if he swings a sword, etc" mentality it seemed like the qunari would be the least tolerant. Not that I wanted Iron Bull to be intolerant or anything. how "okay" he was with Krem was really awesome.

Of course it's only an assumption, but some people already complain about Iron Bull's romance being 'boring' and 'preachy', so I imagine had the safeword conversation taken place before the sex scene you would still have people complaining. (Different people, but just saying.)
I would've been fine with that scene happening beforehand, but it doesn't bother me as is either. *shrugs*
And I don't at all understand why anyone would think Krem was handeled poorly. I thought BioWare was pretty spot on with him.

This. I mean, one of the writers even mentioned that he had two of his friends, who are actually trans, look at the dialogue/what-not that he had written for and about Krem and they pointed out where he said things that might be considered offensive and he made changes accordingly. Obviously two people aren't going to be the mouthpiece of the entire trans community, but Bioware clearly put effort into being respectful.

I didn't know that! I can easily believe it because all the dialogue concerning Krem's gender felt very respectful and informed. I have heard "It's too preachy" (again with the word preachy, but I've heard it a lot in this fandom) but again, some people will never be happy.
I'm glad that Bull was so insistent on Krem's gender; it endeared him to me a lot. And Krem himself...killed me with that last conversation. (The one about the mirror?)
They could've done so much worse.

But I just find RPG combat so. Fucking. BORING. I want to find objects and have magic flea-jumping powers!
no subject
But like I've said, you can't please everyone.
I adore RPG's, but sometimes I wish I could skip combat too. Especially in DA:I because the open world nature of the game all but forces you to fight. IDK how many times I've been running along, thinking about fast traveling and BAM, a couple bears, a pack of wolves or some assassins come from nowhere. If you're out of potions and low on health you pretty much have to just make a run for it (or stop and fight) and hope for the best, lol.
That said, there are plenty of objects to collect, and you CAN jump (and fade step), so...there's that.
no subject
Also, I don't own the correct consoles, and probably never will. I own DA:O but didn't get far, just because I didn't have the console and the combat turned me off.
I can't even watch Let's Plays, because the games are so big and with so many different paths! I'm byte-blocked!
no subject
(You said you like puzzles and platforming...have you tried Portal? I know, most everyone has heard of Portal by now, this is probably a dumb question.)
The Let's Play thing is killer. I know, I wanted to watch Let's Plays of some of Mass Effect's DLC because I couldn't download it, but I couldn't watch much of it... There's just too much personalization with these games, not being able to make your own decisions defeats the pupose for me. It's good for those who want to experience it themselves, but if you aren't able to play then it makes things difficult and frankly, boring.
no subject
It's why I like watching people play horror games, honestly; those games tend to have more running and screaming than fighting.

(Fair warning: the trailer only hints it at the end, but it's actually something of a horror game--just a really sneaky one that keeps its scares in moderation. You will be freaked out at some points.)

Is it available somewhere off Steam? I don't have it and probably won't till I get my new Frankencomputer this spring. This game looks really cool though!

(I'm not sure why it says "preorder" when it's already out.)

It also creates the potential for interesting problems if someone is given a role opposite of their sex and they happen to be cis.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-24 05:01 am (UTC)(link)I don't ever choose those conversation options tho, and I still enjoy Krem's character a lot.
