I know someone will come in and explain how a threesome isn't an OT3 or more, which is true, but the way I've seen OT3s handled in fandom, they are threesomes.

I am sorry you went through that and don't let anyone try and tell you how to view them if it makes you uncomfortable.

The difference matters, though. In fanfic, I enjoy reading about "threesomes" in the sense of three or more people having casual sex: a one-night-stand type of thing. I do not enjoy reading about polyamory or an ongoing, marriage-like relationship between three or more people, because LTRs and relationship issues are not something I find interesting.

I also don't enjoy the idea that putting three people together is a solution for a ship-war. I don't find that to be satisfactory at all.

If I were participating in a fic exchange or something, I would hope that the word "threesome" is not taken to mean "polyamory." These are two very different concepts.

That wasn't exactly what I meant. Many people get offended if you say OT3s are just about the sex. Which, most of what I've seen, it IS about the sex and never about the issues or relationship involved.

Otherwise, I agree with you 100%.
