I think OP doesn't need to criticize it, OP just needs to go "it doesn't click with me" or "sorry man just can't get into it" or any other vague neautral but non-insulting way to get across they're not interested. In the most vague neutral way possible. (practice on how to give polite airs of disinterest?)

'cause going straight to 'critique'* of a show their friend identifies with could be considered rude.

But then OP's friend has already jumped to 'fake SJW' claims so probably too late to avoid an over reaction.

*I wouldn't consider OP's reasons for disliking it as proper critique and well is critique needed for everythign? Can't OP just say they don't like it and leave it at that without ripping into friend's presumably fave show?

Critique is a useful thing to learn to accept, but over a tv show or something is not the best way to learn it because they can't help enjoying it anymore than OP can help not enjoying it.

Sadly, with some people you can't just say "I didn't like it" or "It didn't click with me" and be certain of them leaving it. I've had friends and acquaintances take that as an invitation to find a way to bring me around. Oh, you didn't like the first couple of episodes? Let me tell you about season three! It didn't click for you? Why? You can't tell me? Well maybe you didn't watch it closely enough! Let me enumerate all the reasons I love it to try and convince you! They just love it so much they can't quite accept that someone they know and like doesn't also love it and they're determined to share that love, whether it's wanted or not. In that case almost any critique can result in hurt feelings.

It's fucking exhausting.

Yeah, there are some people who will take rejection of their favorite show as a ~personal rejection~ and try that much harder to get people to like it.
