This is very very off topic and I have a feeling you mentioned this before but I don't know when or where, but is your y key broken?

I really do wish I could offer an insightful comment to your well thought out comment and I'm sorry for my lack of.

Ha, yes. It's not entirely broken, but it has issues. I need to tap it a bit harder than the other keys. And it's my laptop, so I can't just go and buy a new one, plug it into USB and be done with it. Possibly it's just dirt underneath, but yeah, i sort of tried to clean under it and it didn't really help.

DA

depending on the model, you should be able to get the keyboard tray replaced; think it's about a $75 repair, at least that's what I paid for an old netbook.

It's a Lenovo Thinkpad - and 75 is quite a lot for my current budget, for just one key, but if it really starts annoying me I'll consider it. But thank you.

Have you gotten it looked at? It's usually fixable without replacing the keyboard.

Nah, not yet - I'm sort of over-protective of m laptop in general.
