What do you think about...

...male-pattern baldness?

And why is it called "male-pattern" baldness? Why not just male baldness? Is there a specific pattern called "male?" So like even women can have "male-pattern" baldness because it's a pattern and and not a gender? I know that's not so, but it seems it would be if it were a type of pattern.

I think of androgenetic alopecia and how much it sucks to have it. It gets the male-pattern name because it is very much related to hormone imbalance, however in my case it's an absence of estrogen than an excess of testosterone.

Er... pretty sure the "pattern" is there because it usually happens in predictable patterns in this condition, as opposed to baldness that's caused by chemo, stress, nutritional deficiencies and other health issues, etc. Women have "female pattern baldness". It usually presents slightly differently than it does in men.

I don't think male is modifying pattern in that name, anon. It's pattern baldness that affects males, not a male pattern.

because male baldness affects different areas than females typically

Because female baldness progresses in a different way to male baldness.

There's clear distinct patterns in loss a google will throw up.
