I prefer my nickname to my given name - mostly because my given name is a bit long and watching people stumble over the pronunciation makes me wince heavily. No-one ever spells it right either.

While my nickname I have some ownership - after much varied spelling from multiple people, I've managed to get some consistency into it.

It's been hilarious living with a housemate who has the same nickname and a surname one letter off mine and a neighbour with my nickname but my housemate's surname. Good times, did equal a nickname of our nicknames to differentiate.

So I've definitely distanced myself from it and I think my nickname fits me better. My fullname is just the basis but I've built up from that.

Not attached to my surname at all, I think if I get married I would ask to take my wife's name, or maybe make up a name together that I can have...
