Deflategate. There are so many more important things in the world to talk about, I don't get why it keeps getting attention.

Some sports team cheated in sports by deflating the sports balls and that sports team is supposed to play in the big sports game this coming weekend where there's going to be a lot of sportsing.

It is annoying to me that you choose to be supercilious and annoying about people liking different forms of entertainment than you.

Yep. He sounds like one of those asses who says, "Well, I am going to watch The Super Bowl but ONLY for the commercials."

I don't know about you, but that sounds like the best reason to attend!

And yet, that's a very good summary for people who aren't interested in sports, which fits pretty well with this thread.

+1

As a non-sportser I kind of prefer this. If people use specific names and terms, I then have to ask what THOSE are to understand the first thing...

*nods*

It's always a difficult balance when trying to explain something to someone who isn't in the fandom. Because a whole lot of irrelevant detail will often bog down the conversation and distract from the point you were trying to make.

sure, and saying that doesn't bother me, whereas if you called it 'sportsball' it kinda would

I kind of don't mind hearing about it just because it's so fucking stupid and therefore it makes me laugh.

That said, it helps that I have mostly taught myself to tune out NFL news so I don't have to hear about it that much. I'm sure that if I still actively paid attention to the NFL I would hate it. Because, really, NFL coverage is absurd saturation coverage even when they don't have any controversy to talk about and it's not Super Bowl week.

Seriously. I'm tired both of people insisting the Patriots cheated and fellow Bostonians who are offended by the idea and insist on coming to Brady's defense.

It is so stupid and it just needs to go away.

Counterpoint: any controversy that gets Bill Nye involved isn't a complete waste of time.

Wait, Bill Nye got involved with a football controversy?

Man, I feel so out of date. All the wank I know about is like ten years old. (Except Andy Blake, but he's like the Christmas fruitcake of wank, with a shelf life of twenty years and passed around by everyone.)

(Side note: whatever happened to Blake? The last I heard of him was when he tried to run a Supernatural convention, but people in the fandom already knew who he was and started warning folks not to go.)

Oh Bill Nye. The more I hear about you, the more I like you.

As for Blake, oh, he's still around, being creepy as ever. No huge blow-ups since the Supernatural convention, but he's trying to use Ferguson to beef up what a great activist and non-racist white dude he is, and he was still trying to pull the "I'm a channeler" on people in 2011, so you know, same old same old.

Class act, he is.

Check out FFA and dememe; nobody's talking about him right now, thank goodness (those threads got tedious for me), but this summer/fall, there was a dedicated thread each post and I gather he was up to some hijinks.
