Ask me about eh, whatever. My country, my travels, languages are options, but really I'm pretty open about things in general.

How big is Hergé in Belgium, really? I'm very much a fan of comics and cartooning, so obviously he's a big deal in that subculture, but is he a big thing to the man on the street? Are cartoons and bandes dessinées in general?

Quite big in the sense that if you'd ask a random person who Tintin is, or even if they read it at least once, they would probably say "yes".

And say if you go to Brussels, you'd find shops that have Tintin-inspired souvenirs etc.

That being said, the man has been dead for quite a while, so it's more a legacy thing. I think younger people, while being aware of him, will probably read more modern stuff.

Where's the best place to visit in Belgium for a holiday, in your opinion? Countryside or towns, I'm keen on either. :)

Not the person you asked, but I still think Bruges is a little treasure.

Thanks, anon! :) Bruges looks beautiful.

The countryside isn't all that special, imho. If you're pressed for time, I'd say Ghent or Bruges (Bruges is pretty much all medieval city, Ghent is more modern, but with still a LOT of historical buildings in the centre)
