Re: Lines that ruin a fic for you

Kind of. This didn't RUIN the fic for me, but it definitely made me look at the author differently.

It was a Stony fic where the author absolutely insisted on writing Bucky as an asshole, kind of a devil-on-the-shoulder for Steve who was always picking on "poor woobie Tony".

I didn't stop reading the fic, but every time asshole!Bucky reared his head, I would just be so amused and I couldn't help but think of the author as an insecure child. It was so blatantly obvious that she felt threatened by how much Steve obviously cared about Bucky in the Winter Soldier that it was hilarious to me.

Some people get mad to see their favorites demonized, but I kind of get a perverse joy out of it because it's of how readily it shows that the author is insecure.

I read something pretty similar recently but flipped, where Tony was the one being ridiculously vilified. Then I made the mistake of reading the comments and everyone was patting themselves on the back for shipping the logical ship (Stucky) and calling anyone that ships Stony childish, etc.
