Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)And I do think that there's some sense in which you have at least a weak obligation to hold your tongue, viz common politeness.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)I have a dear friend who's Republican. And though I love him dearly and think his heart is in the right place, some of his stances on economics are fucking idiotic and, when he talks about them, I certainly don't just nod my head and agree.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)and secondarily, that there are situations where it is very impolite to say that
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)And of course it can be impolite. But it's certainly not racist.
Re: Confessions

Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 01:02 am (UTC)(link)I like moral philosophy but I despise the notion that people want to codify it into a system based on books that are hundreds or thousands of years old.
I think religions are by their nature disturbing. In Christianity, for example, I could never get over the fact that Hell exists. It's such a fucked up idea on a fundamental level to me.
If someone wants to believe in Christianity, that's their right. But I won't treat their beliefs as sacred because they're not sacred to me.
And I certainly don't appreciate being called a racist for saying that I hate religion.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:53 am (UTC)(link)I think you should just learn to accept that some people believe differently than you do and that's okay.
Re: Confessions
(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)Like, honestly, that's like saying you can't hate Republican ideas because it would grow into "hating the person."
Sorry but I'm never going to stop hating the anti-gay marriage arguments. Not gonna happen.
