Also 35, also done exactly the same thing. And I'm not even in especially young-skewing fandoms. There have been times when I've felt like a particularly fascinating zoo exhibit.

I think the whole concept of "you're too old for this stuff" is something anyone of that age thinks, though. I remember being <20 (and not in fandom at all) and thinking my parents enjoying TV shows was embarrassing, or the traditional "OMG UR TOO OLD U JUST DON'T GET ME!" teenage rite of passage rant. I remember quite distinctly upsetting my mother intensely with that one when I was in high school.

Then you get to whatever age you think you're supposed to be too old for things, and realize no, fuck that, I'm going to like what I like (and maybe I was pretty stupid when I was younger in having that opinion in the first place, but then again having stupid opinionsis also the privilege of being young).
